Podiatry

Our feet are the foundation of our balance and postural wellbeing: they support the entire weight of the body, absorb impact and directly affect posture, ankles, knees and the spine. At MediSport Center you can have specialist examinations for foot health, from both a biomechanical and a dermatological and nail perspective, with dedicated pathways for athletes, diabetic patients, older adults and people with recurring postural pain.

Podiatry

Foot pain? When a podiatry visit is needed

A podiatry visit is indicated in the presence of specific symptoms, but also as a periodic check-up for people who play sports, work long hours on their feet or live with systemic conditions such as diabetes. Signs that warrant an assessment include:

  • Pain in the sole, heel or forefoot, especially on waking or after prolonged activity
  • Persistent calluses, corns, hyperkeratosis or recurring blisters at the same pressure points
  • Thickened, discoloured or painful nails, or nails that tend to grow inwards (onychocryptosis)
  • Skin or nail fungal infections, itching between the toes, peeling skin
  • Poor posture, a feeling of imbalance or asymmetrical shoe wear
  • Diabetic foot, peripheral neuropathy or reduced sensitivity in the lower limbs
  • Pain in the ankles, knees or back that may originate from altered foot support
  • Athletes with overload pain or recurring foot injuries
Which conditions does the podiatrist treat, and how do they differ from a beautician?

The podiatrist is a university-trained healthcare professional who treats conditions of the foot: hyperkeratosis (deep calluses), ingrown toenails (onychocryptosis), fungal infections, warts and ulcers (for example in the diabetic foot). They do not perform cosmetic treatments, but work on the health and biomechanics of the foot, including the design of custom foot orthotics.

What is the baropodometric examination and how does it show whether I need custom insoles?

It is a computerised diagnostic test that measures the pressures the foot exerts on the ground, both in a static position (standing still) and dynamically (while walking). It identifies abnormalities of foot support (flat foot, cavus foot), postural asymmetries and overloads that can cause pain not only in the foot, but also in the knees, hips and spine. Custom orthopaedic insoles are then designed on the basis of these data.

Monitoring foot health helps prevent more serious complications — such as ulcers, progressive deformities and chronic pain — and maintain correct posture over time, improving quality of life.

Complete podiatry examination with medical history and clinical inspection

Assessment of foot health, posture and gait, with a personalised treatment plan.

Biomechanical assessment of the foot and analysis of foot support
Static and dynamic baropodometric examination (plantar pressure mapping)

A sensor platform records how weight is distributed across the foot at rest and while walking: the basis for custom orthotics and postural corrections.

Treatment of fungal infections, plantar warts and hyperkeratosis

Outpatient treatment of fungal infections, warts and skin thickening of the foot.

Conservative treatment of ingrown toenails (onychocryptosis)

Treatment of ingrown toenails without surgery, with nail re-education and dedicated dressings.

Removal of calluses and corns with professional instruments

Safe, painless removal of calluses and corns, with advice to prevent recurrence.

Custom-made foot orthotics and silicone digital orthoses

Insoles and small silicone devices made to the measurements of your foot to correct support and friction.
