Physiotherapy in Perugia
At the MediSport centres, physiotherapy is a point of reference for anyone recovering from an injury, improving their motor skills or managing muscle and joint pain. Our specialists follow each patient with personalized treatments, combining manual and instrumental therapies to support an effective recovery.
Starting a treatment plan?
What to know first
Prescriptions, session length and frequency, the difference between physiotherapy and osteopathy: answers to the questions we hear most often.
Do I need a medical prescription to start a course of physiotherapy?
A preliminary medical assessment — by your GP, an orthopaedic specialist or a physiatrist — is always recommended before starting treatment, in order to set up the correct therapeutic protocol. At our centre it is in any case possible to have an initial specialist physiotherapy assessment.
How long does a physiotherapy session last and how many times a week will I need to come?
A session generally lasts 45 to 60 minutes, depending on whether it involves manual therapy, instrumental therapy or motor re-education. The frequency — for example 2 or 3 times a week — is established according to the phase of the condition, acute or chronic, and agreed during the first appointment.
What is the difference between Physiotherapy and Osteopathy?
Physiotherapy focuses on the recovery of a specific dysfunctional or post-traumatic area of the body through exercises and physical therapies. Osteopathy takes a global approach: it looks for the primary cause of the pain, even far from the symptom, working on the musculoskeletal, visceral and craniosacral systems to restore overall balance.
What does the post-injury return-to-sport programme involve?
It is the final phase of the rehabilitation pathway. Once the injured tissue has clinically healed, the patient-athlete moves from the physiotherapy table to the therapeutic gym: here the work focuses on recovering the specific athletic movement, strength, coordination and proprioception, reducing the risk of recurrence before returning to sport.
