Dermatology services in Perugia
The skin is the largest and most exposed organ of the entire body. Specialist dermatology visits can help with the prevention and treatment of the main skin conditions.
Do you have these symptoms? When a dermatology check-up is needed
Moles that change in appearance, persistent itching or unusual spots can be signals worth checking. A dermatology visit is recommended in the following cases:
- Moles that change colour, shape or size
- Persistent skin rashes or itching
- Unusual spots or redness
- Abnormal hair loss
What is mole mapping?
Mole mapping (epiluminescence microscopy or dermatoscopy) is the reference examination for the prevention of melanoma and other skin cancers: it allows the specialist to observe and document moles over time, detecting any suspicious changes at an early stage.
How often should mole mapping be performed?
For the general adult population, a preventive mole check (melanoma screening) is recommended once a year. In people with very fair skin (phototype 1 or 2), a family history of skin cancer or a high number of irregular moles, the specialist may recommend more frequent checks, for example every 6 months.
A dermatological check-up is in any case recommended at least once a year: regular observation of your own skin helps with prevention and early diagnosis of potential problems.
