Neurology
At MediSport Center we offer specialist neurological visits for the diagnosis and treatment of the main disorders of the central and peripheral nervous system, from migraine and chronic headaches to memory disorders, from cerebrovascular disease to sleep disorders. Our centre is organised into dedicated clinics — headache, memory and the OSAS sleep disorders centre — to provide targeted diagnostic and therapeutic pathways, working together with cardiologists, ENT specialists and psychologists when the clinical picture requires it.
When is a neurology visit needed? The conditions we treat
Recurring headaches, memory lapses, disturbed sleep or dizziness are signals worth investigating with a specialist. At our neurology centre we treat a wide range of disorders of the central and peripheral nervous system, including:
- Primary headaches: migraine (with and without aura), tension-type headache, cluster headache
- Cognitive and memory disorders, mild cognitive impairment (MCI), senile dementia and Alzheimer's disease
- Cerebrovascular disease: previous stroke, TIA, post-stroke follow-up
- Multiple sclerosis and other demyelinating diseases
- Epilepsy and seizures
- Movement disorders: essential tremor, Parkinson's disease and parkinsonian syndromes
- Peripheral neuropathies, entrapment syndromes (carpal tunnel, sciatica)
- Dizziness of neurological origin and balance disorders
- Sleep disorders: chronic insomnia, obstructive sleep apnoea (OSAS), parasomnias, restless legs syndrome
I suffer from severe headaches: when does a headache require a specialist neurology visit?
A neurological assessment is needed when headache episodes change in frequency or intensity, when they no longer respond to common painkillers, when they are accompanied by visual symptoms (aura) or nausea, or in the case of a new-onset headache after the age of 50. The neurologist classifies the type of headache (migraine, tension-type, cluster) and sets up an effective preventive therapy, not just a symptomatic one.
Night-time snoring and daytime sleepiness: which tests should I have?
Chronic snoring and pauses in breathing during the night are the main symptoms of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea Syndrome (OSAS), a condition in which breathing stops repeatedly, reducing the oxygen in the blood. This causes daytime fatigue and dramatically increases the risk of high blood pressure, heart attack and stroke. Diagnosis requires a sleep study (cardiorespiratory monitoring or polysomnography), which identifies the disorder and allows it to be treated effectively, for example with CPAP ventilation therapy or mandibular advancement dental devices.
Specialised Neurology Clinics at MediSport Center
The MediSport Neurology Centre is organised into dedicated clinics, each with specific diagnostic and therapeutic pathways:
— dedicated to the assessment and treatment of migraine, tension-type headache and cluster headache, with pharmacological prophylaxis, anti-CGRP monoclonal antibodies and botulinum toxin protocols for chronic refractory forms.
— diagnostic pathway for cognitive disorders, mild cognitive impairment and dementia, with neurological assessment, neuropsychological testing, referral for instrumental investigations (brain MRI, PET, cerebrospinal fluid tests) and definition of the care plan and family support.
— dedicated to chronic insomnia, obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS), snoring, parasomnias, restless legs syndrome and sleep-wake rhythm disorders, with ambulatory polysomnography and a multidisciplinary team of neurologists, ENT specialists and pulmonologists.
