Cardiology

Do you have these symptoms? When a cardiology check-up is needed

Chest pain, shortness of breath, an irregular heartbeat or fatigue that does not go away can be signals worth checking. A cardiology visit is recommended in case of:

  • Chest pain or palpitations
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Family history of cardiovascular disease
  • High cholesterol or high blood pressure
  • Breathing difficulties or persistent fatigue
What is the difference between a resting ECG and a Color Doppler echocardiogram?

A resting ECG records the electrical activity of the heart (rhythm, possible arrhythmias or signs of ischemia). A Color Doppler echocardiogram is instead an ultrasound examination that shows the heart walls, the valves and the blood flow in real time: the two examinations are complementary.

Which leg symptoms call for a vascular assessment?

Persistent ankle swelling, a feeling of heaviness or calf pain that appears when walking and forces you to stop, visible varicose veins, fragile capillaries, night-time cramps or tingling. The reference diagnostic examination is the venous and arterial Doppler ultrasound of the lower limbs.

People with diabetes, smokers and former smokers should have regular check-ups to prevent potential problems.

Cardiology services at MediSport Center

After the visit, the specialist will indicate any further examinations best suited to your case. At MediSport Center you can have:

Cardiology visit

The complete visit with screening includes the clinical history (family history, lifestyle, risk factors), a physical examination with blood pressure measurement and a resting electrocardiogram (ECG).

Electrocardiogram (ECG)

Records the electrical activity of the heart at rest: rhythm, possible arrhythmias or signs of ischemia.

Color Doppler echocardiogram

An ultrasound scan of the heart showing the heart walls, the valves and the blood flow in real time, assessing contractility and anatomical structure.

Doppler ultrasound of the supra-aortic trunks (carotid arteries)

Assesses the arteries that carry blood to the brain (carotids). Indicated as a screening in people with cardiovascular risk factors or with symptoms such as dizziness or transient neurological deficits.

Exercise stress test (cycle ergometer)

Records the ECG while you pedal against increasing resistance: it shows how the heart responds to exercise and can reveal problems that do not appear at rest.

Exercise stress test (treadmill)

Like the cycle ergometer test, but walking or running on a treadmill: particularly useful for runners and endurance athletes.

Cardiopulmonary exercise test with respiratory gas analysis

A stress test that also measures oxygen consumption breath by breath: it assesses heart, lungs and muscles together, used both clinically and for athletes.

Dynamic ECG Holter monitoring (3 or 12 leads, up to 7 days)

A small portable recorder that tracks the heart rhythm during everyday life, detecting arrhythmias that a few-minute ECG may miss.

24-hour blood pressure Holter monitoring

Automatically measures blood pressure at regular intervals over 24 hours: it shows the real day-and-night pattern, more reliable than a single in-clinic reading.
